The official American return according to Brown’s report after the Battle of Chippewa , sent to the Secretary of War, John Armstrong on the 7th July 1814, provides a total of 278 casualties ( 58 dead, 241 wounded and 19 missing)
This was approximately one sixth of the men who took part in the action at Chippewa on the American side.
