Del Prado SNC021 Marshal Murat, 1813

The most flamboyant and dashing military commander of the period, Joachim Murat, rose from humble beginnings as the twelfth child of an innkeeper from La Bastide in the south of France. He was intended for the church, but his character was entirely inappropriate for a religious calling. At the tender age of 20, having accumulated substantial debts and wishing to escape his creditors, he enlisted in the cavalry as a trooper.
