Del Prado SNC087 Trooper, French Carabiniers, c. 1800

The French campaigns against the Second Coalition of Allied states that took place in 1800 are associated most familiarly with Napoleon Bonapartes great victory at Marengo, in northern Italy on 14 June. Less well-known, but equally important, was the parallel campaign that occurred in Germany, culminating in a French victory commemorated in one of the most important literary works to have resulted from war of the period, Thomas Campbells poem, Hohenlinden.
Although the French cavalrys contribution to the campaigns of 1800 was perhaps most marked in the charges executed at Marengo, which helped to turn the course of the battle, they also formed an important contribution to the campaign in Germany.
