On June 10, 1940, Italy entered World War II and the drawn out campaign to siege the tiny Mediterranean island of Malta began. Britain, in an attempt to keep Malta from being captured, sent a number of nearly obsolete Gloster Gladiators to its defense. Incredibly, despite facing constant mechanical problems that kept no more than three warbirds in the air at one time, these biplanes and their skilled pilots fought off a much larger force of the Regia Aeronautica. This colorful, limited edition print commemorates the campaign and depicts Flight Lt. James Pickering tangling with a Fiat CR 42.
The print measures 16.5" wide x 11" tall.
