This older style of war banner is known as a hata-jirushi, which gave way to the more modern and easily read norobi. During the Battle of Nagashino the Takeda cavalry charged into the Oda musket lines, and were driven back by the new volley fire technique Nobunaga had developed to compensate for the slow loading time of the arquebus.
