Sergeant Patrick Harper in the television series is Richard Sharpe’s loyal best friend, fierce right hand man and the emotional soul of the unit.
Portrayed by noted Irish actor, Daragh O’Malley Patrick Augustine Harper is a large, powerful native of Donegal Ireland born into a lowly, peasant family who joined the British Army to escape dire, rural poverty.
Despite serving in the British Army, Harper remains a staunch Irishman and proud of his Celtic heritage.
His bond with Richard Sharpe is based on mutual respect for his tactical skills and leadership that leads both men forming an unbreakable brotherhood and lifelong friendship that anchors the entire series.
