W. Britain, Matte Finish #17513 Alamo Northwest Corner Wall

The 13-day siege of the Alamo symbolizes the place where many men eventually made the ultimate sacrifice against overwhelming odds and transformed a 100-year-old Franciscan mission into a national shrine.

The Alamo’s defenders positioned most of their artillery on ramped earthen mounds or wooden platforms that allowed the ordnance to point their muzzles over the post’s adobe walls. The Texians’ deadliest battery turned out to be the three 8-pounders assigned to the Fortin de Teran on the north wall, which operated under the direct supervision of the Alamo’s commandant, Lieutenant Colonel William Barrett Travis. The last Texian artillery position to fall to the Mexicans was the high three-gun battery at the back of the Alamo chapel commanded by Captain Almeron Dickenson.
