At 8 pm on 1 August 1914 German troops violated the neutrality of Luxembourg, on the same day Germany declared war on Russia, and on 2 August German troops crossed the frontier into France. On the 3rd, Germany declared war on France, and at midnight on the 4th war was declared between Germany and Great Britain.
