Generally regarded as the top Russian ace of World War I, Sgt. Ivan Smirnoff started his career as an infantryman, joining XIX Squadron in 1915. He finished the war with 12 aerial victories and, after the war, fearing the Bolsheviks, he fled the Soviet Union and settled down into a commercial flying job in the Netherlands. This limited edition print depicts Sgt. Smirnoff piloting a Moraine-Saulnier monoplane, painted with his signature pirate tail art, during the Great War.
Limited edition print is signed and numbered by the artist.
