Rogers Rangers broke up their force for the journey home from the Raid on St. Francis. On October 12th, the remaining men of Rogers' raiding party were divided into 11 groups of approximately 12 men each. One of these ill fated groups was to be led by Lt. Jenkins. Lt. Jenkins group included 4 Rangers, 4 Provincials, 2 Stockbridge Indians and 2 Indian female captives and was to head for Crown Point.
