W. Britain's #17541 Grenadier Company, 18th French Gatinois Regiment
Matte Finish, American Revolution

The Gatinois Regiment, also known as the 18th Regiment of the Line, was formed in 1776 when the Auvergne Regiment was reduced from four battalions to two. The following year, the Gatinois Regiment sailed to the West Indies. In September 1779, the Gatinois Regiment was part of the 2,800-man French army that Vice Admiral Charles Hector Theodat, Comte d’Estaing, transported to Georgia to participate in the unsuccessful Franco-American siege of Savannah. The Gatinois Regiment finally tasted victory when a Franco-Spanish force of more than 7,000 soldiers and sailors besieged and forced the surrender of 1,600 Redcoats, Hessians, Loyalists, and Creek Indians at Pensacola, Florida, in the spring of 1781.
