This Confederate Casualty on Back brings a touch of realism to many a battlefield!

The Civil War remains the deadliest military conflict in American history. The estimated number of deaths vary from about 620,000 to 750,000. A wholly accurate count will almost certainly never be made. The War cost the country 2.5% of its population - today that would be more than 7 million Americans! One reason for the high number of battle deaths was the continued use of outmoded tactics in the face of new technology. Rifled barrels, Minié balls and repeating firearms all added to the carnage. The continued use of an extended frontal assault furthered the mortality rate, but sadly this tactic would be employed for many years to come.
