First seeing action in August of 1940, the HMS Prince of Wales was a V-Class battleship that saw extensive service during the early years of World War II. Her decorated career came to a premature end, however, just days after the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor, on December 10, 1941. The Prince of Wales and the battlecruiser Repulse were stationed in the South China Sea, fighting off a swarm of Japanese aircraft until, ultimately, it became too much, and both vessels of the Royal Navy were sunk. This marked the first time that capital ships had been destroyed solely by air power while on the open sea, forever diminishing the role of battleships in warfare. This limited edition print depicts the ill-fated ship just before her demise.
Measuring 16"x 11½" this limited edition is signed in the lower left corner with the edition number in the lower right.
