Hi, I had my 1st model expo this April in New Jersey and won a Silver Medal for Excellence and I even sold one scratch built diorama. The turn out wasn't too good, I guess because it was Palm Sunday. Has anyone else entered shows before? If so what can I expect in the future. And helpful hints. As soon as I reduce the file size of my photos I will upload a few. Thanks

Welcome to the forum Morbshock. I too am a scratch builder/kit basher. I even kit bash K&C vehicles and figures, to the dismay of my fellow collectors. I look forward to seeing your photos. Michael

Morbshock,
I was at the show on Sunday in Wayne but I'm not a builder. However, if you want us to get your photos, you can send them to me or Pete Reuss and we'll do it.

If I remember correctly, the upcoming Valley Forge Toy Soldier show has a modeling area for entries. Because it is a toy soldier show first, it is well attended and the exhibit area benefit from the crowd that is drawn there. Whereas a modeling show in itself would not move me, being part of my first hobby, has allowed me to share and marvel at the modelers talent and efforts. Michael

I went to Valley Forge last year and it had a huge modeling area. Needless to say, I was impressed with the quality of the exhibits.

Did you see my work at the Wayne NJ show? As soon as you walked into the room to the left I was in the first row,in the middle with my scratch built dioramas.

I place second place for my diorama in San Antonio. It was a dio that had a bombed farm house and a sws flak 43. It was my second diorama that I built.

Great work. It obviously has taken you lots of patience and practice to get to this level. Bravo Zulu. Michael

Thanks! I started building scratch models in 2004. Patience I do have, lots of it. I really enjoy building something from the ground up. It can get on the nerves at times but the end results make it worth it. I had to practice for some time to get to the level that I'm at. Trial and era, lots of it.

What are the buildings made of? I think I see cardboard for the roof.

I do use cardboard, sometimes tree bark for shingles and most of the time my buildings don't have roofs so I don't have to worry about what they will be made from. LOL My new in progress diorama will have no roof. I like to use formboard for the house walls and 2nd floors. I use mortar and Plaster of Paris, wood and whatever I can find to put each diorama together.

And everything including the kitchen sink, hence the term "scratch built," but then I am famous for stating the obvious. Michael:rolleyes:
